by: michael horan

The Stoughton Democratic Town Committee adopted a resolution calling for the overturning of Citizens United and introduced it before our Select Board on Tuesday. Where it passed, unanimously. Joining the rought 70 communites across the Commonwealth that have taken this stand.

My report here.

This is something I think both sides of the isle can and should support. (0.00 / 0)
(Citizens United vs. Federal Elections Commission) that removed virtually all restrictions on the ability of corporations, unions, and uber-wealthy individuals to peddle their influence on the electoral process by flooding elections with the kind of money you and I can't match.

Corporations, Unions, I'd even throw in PAC's ... I believe only an individual should be able to contribute, say $1,000 or $500 a year. We can adjust the $$s but ultimately I'd like to see a system that tracks contributions by Social Security Numbers only.  You can donate to as many people you want however total dollars cannot exceed $1,000 or $500 annually.

There are so many things in this country that are so wrong that we almost become immune to the stupidity of it all.  For example we need 600 sheets of paper to define every Tax law and loophole in the US.  We have basically no government agencies that protect us from Identity Theft ... Just private companies that will do it for a couple hundred bucks a year??? And we think it's normal to have lobbyists crawling all over our elected officials in Washington.

If we cut out entities all entities and force our elected officials to answer to people then I think we stand a better shot at fixing alot of our problems.  It's a start anyway.

Michael I still owe you a couple of answers to some comments you left me ... I haven't forgotten, just need a little more time.  Talk to you soon dude.

Good stuff (0.00 / 0)
Went to a great presentation by David Cobb of Move to Amend at the Green Party US convention yesterday. Here's a video of the same presentation he gave in New Jersey last year.

We, the people, need to start standing up, standing together, and fighting back to reclaim our natural rights that SHOULD BE protected under the U.S. Constitution.

Quotes
"The time has come for global action to build a new world economic system that is no longer based on the illusion that limitless growth is possible on our precious and finite planet or that endless material gain promotes well-being. Instead, it will be a system that promotes harmony and respect for nature and for each other; that respects our ancient wisdom traditions and protects our most vulnerable people as our own family, and that gives us time to live and enjoy our lives and to appreciate rather than destroy our world. It will be an economic system, in short, that is fully sustainable and that is rooted in true, abiding well-being and happiness."
--Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley of Bhutan, where the government tracks the nation's "Gross National Happiness"
